Republic Bank Ghana PLC has outdoored its state-of-the-art edifice in Accra on Friday 28th January, 2022.
The ultra-modern building called “The Republic Court” houses the Republic Bank head office annex located at the Independent Avenue, opposite the AU square.
With the commissioning of the Republic Court Building, the Trinidad and Tobago owned bank with over 184 solid years of banking experience and asset base of $16 billion, looks to becoming a Tier 1 bank in the country in the next three years.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison said the Bank of Ghana continues to keenly monitor all banks to ensure the stability and soundness of the industry.
“It has been almost two years since the comprehensive reforms to restore credibility and confidence in the banking system. Since then, the Bank of Ghana has issued a number of directives, including the exposure draft of the Corporate Governance Disclosure Requirements which seeks to promote and enhance transparency and accountability to stakeholders. The Bank of Ghana continues to keenly monitor all banks to ensure the stability and soundness of the industry”.
He further admonished the bank to make progress with the shift towards digitizing products and services.
“With the current advancement in technology and growth of fintech’s in the financial service space, we therefore encourage the Republic Bank to keep pace with the shift towards electronic-driven products and services”, he added.
Senior Adviser to the President, Yaw Osafo Marfo who represented President Akufo-Addo, advised the bank to emulate its parent bank’s participation in the oil and gas industry in Trinidad and Tobago.
“Your parent bank, Republic Financial Holdings Limited, RFHL of Trinidad and Tobago has been very instrumental in the development of the oil and gas industry in the Caribbean and I urge the Republic Bank to carry that expertise here. Let us see you diversify and get involved into the oil and gas industry in our dear Ghana. We will be happy to see this bank grow further because of what you have demonstrated, that you are a good corporate citizen”.
He also indicated that the bank has for a very long-time partnered government in the public sector mortgage scheme, adding that, it was a key player during the development and implementation of the National Housing and Mortgage Fund, which he said was Instituted under the presidency of Nana Akufo Addo.
“This Fund continues to provide public sector workers with affordable mortgage loans highly subsidized by government” he emphasized.
On his part, Managing Director of Republic Bank Ghana, Fareed Antar explained that the building is a statement to Ghana and is confident that the current location will enhance its presence and brand equity.
“The Republic Court is an enviable, imposing and magnificent design of a building, a statement to Ghana that we are here to stay, to Ghanaians that we are the ones for them and the banking industry that we are a force to reckon with”
The ceremony was graced by Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey; Accra Mayor, Elizabeth Sackey.
Others were Regional Police Commander, DCOP Iddi Lansah Seidu; Municipal Chief Executive, KoKMA Nii Adjei Tawiah; the Honorary Consul, Trinidad and Tobago,Hilton John Mitchell; Board Chairman of Republic Bank Ghana, Charles William Zwennes; Directors of Republic Bank Ghana, Executives and Staff.
