The Coastal Development Authority (CODA) has said it liaised with relevant institutions in charge of state monuments before embarking on the renovation works at the Asomdwe Park.

This was contained in a statement released by the Authority on July 20 to contrast accusations by the family of former President John Evans Atta Mills that no family member was contacted before the renovation works.

Responding to allegations by the family that the Authority together with the Atta Mills Institute has desecrated the body of the late President, CODA said “We wish to state that the grave was not opened and therefore no desecration of the body of the former President, H.E John Evans Atta Mills, has taken place.”

CODA noted that so far, it has completed the following projects at the Asomdwe Park; the redesign and construction of ICT lab, library, cafeteria and artifact buildings, construction of a concrete shed and replacement of alucobond panels over tomb of the late President, construction of fence wall and two restrooms for security staff, construction of entrance for General Public & VIPs and paving of 50-metre walkway to and around the tomb with porcelain tiles.

Also the asphalting of the driveway to general entrance and landscaping of general area around the tomb are currently ongoing.

“We, therefore, assure all well-meaning Ghanaians that the project, which continues to be a top priority for CODA, is well on schedule and will be handed over to the Office of the President for official commissioning, once completed,” the statement added.
