Ghana's performance in the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games is the best the country has had since the 1998 games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Team Ghana ended the 2022 edition of the games with five medals, coming from the boxing as well as track and field events.
Abraham Mensah, Abdul Wahid Omar and Joseph Commey delivered medals in the boxing discipline while Joseph Paul Amoah put in their all to secure medals from the Games.
Acquah finished third in the Women's Long Jump after a leap of 6.94m to win bronze while also setting a new national record. Omar and Joe Paul were the other bronze medalists with the latter's medal coming after he finished third in the 200m final with a time of 20.49s.
Just as has been the trend silver medals in boxing from Mensah and Commey were the country's best outing in Birmingham as we finished with five medals.
A total of five medals also means it is Ghana's best at the multisport events since the 1998 edition in Malaysia.
Ghana only received a bronze medal at the 2002 Commonwealth Games, three medals at the Melbourne edition in 2006, and four medals at the Delhi, India, edition in 2010.
Ghana earned two bronze medals at the 2014 Glasgow Games, but just one at the 2018 edition hosted in Queensland, Australia.
With a growing interest in other sporting activities, Ghana could be targeting an event better performance at the next edition.
