President Akufo-Addo says African countries expect to raise the required funding for climate adaptation by the end of the Africa Adaptation Summit.
The summit was held on September 5 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands by the Global Centre on Adaptation ahead of the COP27 in Egypt in November.

The summit brought together global leaders from across continents, international organizations, multilateral development banks, the private sector, mayors, civil society, youth leaders, and other stakeholders to raise the ambition on adaptation action for Africa.
President Akufo-Addo in an interview with JoyNews’ Benjamin Akakpo said “we are hoping to raise money to do the adaptation that is why we are here.”

Chief Executive Officer of the Global Centre on Adaptation, Professor Patrick Verkooijen told JoyNews that western leaders must inject into the climate adaptation agenda and programme by the African leaders to resource Africa for adaptation projects.
“What I expect is that there would be injection into this agenda but there is nowhere to hide for global leaders including or particularly from the West to double down on adaptation finance.”

The summit concluded with $55m in funding earmarked for African adaptation.
Congolese President, Felix Tshisekedi in an interview with Benjamin Akakpo bemoaned the brunt of climate change on the African continent despite the paltry contribution by the continent.

Felix Tshisekedi expects the West to live up to their promise made during COP 26 in Glasgow to provide Africa with some funding for climate adaptation projects.
