Seven first-round fixtures of the 2022/23 betPawa Premier League were played on Saturday and Sunday across the various league centres.
Hearts of Oak suffered a 1-0 opening weekend loss at Aduana FC while Kotoku Royals recorded a first-ever top-flight win when they beat Accra Lions 1-0.
Here is a wrap of the various games played over the weekend.
Great Olympics 1-0 Bechem United
Great Olympics left it late to beat Bechem United 1-0 in the first game of the season at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday.
Samuel Ashie-Quaye scored in the 81st minute by slotting in from close quarters to hand Yaw Preko’s side all three points against the Hunters.
Aduana FC 1-0 Hearts of Oak
Hearts of Oak’s winless run in Dormaa has now stretched to six games after coming short again on Sunday; the last time the Phobians won at the Nana Agyeman Badu I Stadium was in 2014.
Bright Adjei pulled the winner for the hosts by converting a Sam Adams pass four minutes into the second half.
Samuel Boadu’s team finished the game with 10 men after defender Caleb Amankwah was sent off with a minute to the end of regulation time.
Kotoku Royals 1-0 Accra Lions
Newly promoted Akyem Kotoku Royals edged Accra Lions 1-0 at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Sunday to pick their first Ghanaian topflight win in history.
Augustine Boakye scored the club’s historic goal 19 minutes into the game against Ibrahim Tanko’s side.
Legon Cities 0-1 Medeama SC
9-man Legon Cities lost 1-0 to Medeama SC at the El Wak Sports Stadium in Accra. Kofi Asmah struck the only goal of the game eight minutes after the hour mark.
Defender Michael Ampadu and midfielder Michel Otou were sent off ten minutes to the end of the game.
Bibiani GoldStars 0-1 Dreams FC
Dreams FC handed GoldStrars an opening week home defeat courtesy of a goal from Blessing Dana in the 56th minute.
Ignatius Osei-Fosu’s side who finished last season on a high are continuing from where they left off by picking all three points at the Dun’s Park in Bibiani.
Karela United 1-0 Tamale City
Samuel Attah Kumi scored the only goal of the game after 54 minutes at the Crosby Awuah Memorial Park to hand Karela United all the points against newcomers Tamale City.
Real Tamale United (RTU) 0-0 Samartex 1996
David Abagna Sandan missed an opportunity to give RTU all the points after his effort from the spot was saved 30 minutes into the game against Samartex at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale.
Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko’s game against Nsoatreman has been postponed because of the Porcupine Warriors’ CAF Champions League commitments.
The other first-round game between Berekum Chelsea and King Faisal will be played on Monday at the Nana Agyeman Badu I Stadium in Dormaa.
