The Social Director for the just-ended Global Citizen Festival 2022 in Ghana, Randy Walker, has said that the event was successful due to the risks the crew and managers took.
Speaking to Prime Morning Host, KMJ, on Friday, he indicated that event organisers in Ghana hate risk. This makes them fail to efficiently plan and execute most events in the country.
He believes risk-taking is prime in event planning and organisation within every creative industry.
According to Randy Walker, success is the backbone of risk-taking in making decisions.
"Fundamentally, in every industry or market, a success rate is sort of directly proportional to our appetite for taking risks. You’re only what you become out of the risk you take," he opined.
Mr. Walker added that, "...I believe the Global Citizen Festival did that and that’s why people are talking about it. It was only fundamentally again because of the risk the team behind it took. "
He believes the crew worked efficiently and effectively for the purpose of impacting people in other industries.
On Saturday, September 24, 2022, Global Citizens concluded its 2022 policy campaign with a nine-hour festival across two stages in Ghana and New York.
The festival was deemed the best Ghana has ever seen. The event was technically managed by Ghanaian technicians, but most people failed to believe it due to the quality of the event.
Speaking on the show, the CEO of Rythmz Africa and sound engineer for the festival, Francis Kwakye, indicated that it is difficult to produce successful events in Ghana due to the belief system.
"It is the belief. We have to believe in our talents because there are a lot of talents in Ghana. I believe we should trust and believe in our people. It’s one thing I’ll say we Ghanaians don’t appreciate so much sometimes," he stated.
The sound engineer has called out to the government and event managers to invest in the technical organisation of events, as money is a necessity in event management.
