Members of the 1997 year group (old students) of the Weweso M/A JHS in the Ashanti Region have donated a variety of sanitary items including menstrual pads to their alma mater.
The donation follows a reportage by Luv News, which revealed that some female students of the school saved up their ‘chop money’ to purchase sanitary pads during their menstrual periods.
According to leader of the group, Rev. Israel Kumi, they were moved by the news report to swiftly mobilise an amount of 6,035.00 to provide aid and mitigate such an urgent need accordingly.
Some members of the group were then selected to visit the school to inquire and assess the gravity of the situation.
The items donated included five bundles of toilet rolls (350 pieces), 15 boxes of Blessing pads (360 sets), 15 boxes of Next pads (360 sets), four boxes of Softcare pads, four boxes of BIC pens, one pack of Flora tissue (45 pieces) and 20 packs of Ascovite (Vitamin C).
Mr. Kumi used the opportunity to appeal to other year groups of the alumni association and corporate institutions, NGOs and individuals to make effort to provide such needs when they arise.
Receiving the items on behalf of the elated students, the headmistress, Priscilla Akohene-Mensah was grateful for the gesture, adding that the donation came at the opportune time.
