The Minister of Defence, Dominic Nitiwul, has refuted claims by the Minority that mercenaries are being trained at the Jubilee House.

The claim was first made by social media commentator Kelvin Taylor, who alleged that a top security officer at the Jubilee House is training some mercenaries.

Following that, the Minority in Parliament demanded that the government investigates the allegations.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Monday, the Ranking Member of Parliament's Defence and Interior Committee, James Agalga, called on the government to speak out on the matter.

Reacting to this claim in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen on Wednesday, Mr. Nitiwul said those allegations are baseless.

He noted that such claims are “a figment of somebody’s imagination.”  

According to him, it is not feasible to have mercenaries trained at the Jubilee House since it is the seat of government.

He added that training people and providing them with arms at Jubilee House is a potential coup d'etat.

“How on earth? ...Then you are even putting the life of the President at risk. No serious security agency or serious government will even consider such an idea,” he said.

He stated that the NPP government is responsible for putting an end to vigilantism in the country, so they cannot be lawbreakers.

“It is not true, there is nothing like that. No one is training anybody at Asutsuare. If there is any training at Asutsuare or jungle warfare, it is the soldiers or national security,” he added.

The Defence Minister said security has been beefed up at the Jubilee House to protect it due to the threats of insecurity.
