The President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs and Chief of Dormaa, Osagyefo Oseadeyo Agyemang Badu II, says Ghanaians want the President, Nana Akufo-Addo, to shelve the idea of honoring his promise to God with a National Cathedral.

Though he said the promise to God is good, the worsening economic situation of the people makes the timing inappropriate, especially when state resources are the major source of funding.

"He (Akufo-Addo) brought the National Cathedral. His name can't be taken away from it. But we beg him, the economic situation is such that he should not use our resources to complete it", he told the President through the Regional Minister.

Dormaahene added, "The President should rather work hard to improve the economic fortunes of the country, and if he is unable to finish it, another person will do that in his name".

Dormaahene made the remarks at the general meeting of the house, attended by the regional minister, Justina Owusu Banahene.

The meeting also afforded the house the chance to admit three new chiefs as members after many years of litigation.

They are, Osabarima Debrah Adjei II (Seikwa chief, in the Tain District), Odomfour Dr. Kwasi Apraku III (Odumase no 1 chief in the Sunyani West Municipality), and Odeneho Afrah Brempong III (Suma chief in the Jaman North District).

Osagyefo Oseadeyo Agyemang Badu II used the occasion to praise two natives of the region, Stephen Ayensu Ntim, and Johnson Aseidu Nketiah, for their election as the Chairmen of the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress, respectively.

He urged them to offer good guidance to their parties that would lead to the development of the country.

On her part, the Bono Regional Minister, Justina Owusu Banahene, said the positions being held by Mr. Ntim from Wamfie in the Dormaa East District and Mr. Nketiah from Seikwa in the Tain District are good for the region’s image but reminded all and sundry that it comes with responsibilities.

“If in future there is political violence anywhere in the country, questions would be asked, hence, the need for all of us to play our parts well to ensure they have a successful reign”, she said.

Madam Owusu Banahene said together with the Municipal and District Chief Executives, they would continue to collaborate with the chiefs and other stakeholders in the development of the communities.

She also appealed to the chiefs to join them in the fight against bushfires, especially in the dry season.
