Uruguay striker, Edinson Cavani, says the Ghana versus Uruguay referee at the 2022 World Cup, Daniel Siebert, should be in prison if he is sanctioned for punching the VAR monitor.
The veteran attacker, including other teammates, were furious after the game ended 2-0 in their favour last December, protesting some calls from the referee.

The South Americans believed they should have had, at least, a penalty in the game but the German referee saw no merit in their calls.
Uruguay needed another goal to reach the knockout stage of the Mundial, but that did not happen and they, ultimately, got eliminated alongside the Black Stars.
While talking about the refereeing in an interview with El Larguero (via El Pais), Cavani said: “If they sanction me for having hit the VAR, the referee should have to be put in prison [for his mistakes].
“There have been errors that with the VAR and with the cameras, all the referees that are behind it should not make.”

He concluded: “It is true that we have to behave, but we are human beings and many times it happens on a field when you live with passion and work hard and you have to experience situations like these, which is not the first time we have to deal with it.
“And there it can be that the reactions can be a little more forgiven, not justified.”
Uruguay had four points, the same as South Korea, but ultimately missed qualification on goals scored.
