The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has said that the statement made by the Suame NDC Youth Organizer to incite violence is not mere talk.
According to the party, the Youth Organizer was clear about his threat to stage violence in next year's general elections – saying "it is dangerous to put it mildly”.
“We cannot discard these utterances as vain talk. This individual is coherent, it clearly appears that he knows what he is saying and understands what he is saying and knows what outcome he’s expecting".
Speaking with the press on Wednesday, the NPP Director of Communication, Richard Ahiagbah asserted that the Youth Organiser did not misspeak – saying the threat to incite violence is something that cannot be taken less seriously.
“We cannot accept this as an ordinary misguided statement because as I indicated earlier, it is too coherent to be taken less seriously”.
He explained that his intentions to stage the violence are fueled by some comments made by former President John Mahama when the NDC lost in the 2022 election.
“We believe his threats are not in isolation. He is inspired by NDC’s presumptive leader [the former President John Mahama] who publicly touted the NDC’s credentials “NDC has revolutionary roots and when it comes to unleashing violence, no one can beat us to it”.
“We believe this about the NDC that, the statement that the Youth Organizer made is not in isolation or did he misspeak. He is clear-eyed about what he was saying. His remarks reflect the culture and ethos of the NDC”, he stressed.
Mr Ahiagbah further said that “what is more dangerous, perhaps more egregious is the NDC’s failure to condemn and disassociate itself from the statement but rather chooses to rationalize it”.
He, however, called on the Police and the court to take the statement made by the Suame NDC Youth Organiser seriously and take action against him.
“We expect the Police and the court to bring the Suame Youth Organizer to justice very quickly to deter others who may be harboring delinquent thought in the NDC”.
Mr Ahiagbah also called on the NDC to take the statement made by the Youth Organiser seriously. He demanded they take necessary actions against him to discourage such comments in the field of politics.
“We demand the NDC to unreservedly disavow, disassociate and expel this young man from their party without delay”.
But in a statement issued on Tuesday, the Communications Director of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi explained that the comments by the NDC activist were borne out of the “pain he and other NDC supporters have suffered in the hands of NPP thugs in the Ashanti Region over the years”.
He also advised the party’s supporters “to continue to exercise restraint and not allow the fact that President Akufo-Addo rode to power on the back of so much bloodshed and barbarity to make them want to mimic Nana Akufo Addo and his very violent political party”.
He has since called on the Police to pardon the party’s Suame Youth Organiser for allegedly inciting violence.
