The Deputy Roads and Highways Minister, Stephen Pambiin Jalulah says the National Democratic Congress cannot take credit for the Pokuase Interchange because it is the Akufo-Addo-led New Patriotic Party that executed it.
It was only a "dream" for the NDC government, even if it secured funding for the Pokuase Interchange.
According to Jalulah, the NDC after securing the funding for the project they did not negotiate to get workers on the ground nor start any construction works and it cannot be right that they seek to take credit for what they did not do.
The works, Mr Jalulah noted, was done when the NPP came into power. “It’s one thing to dream and it’s another thing for the dream to be actualised,”
“You go to tell a lender that give me money to do a road and they say okay I’ll give you the money, then you go to parliament, parliament approves, that said, you are supposed to negotiate with the lender then you negotiate with the contractor to come and build the road for you,” he said.
Speaking on The Probe with Blessed Sogah, the Deputy Minister who doubles as the Member of Parliament for Pru West Constituency in the Bono East region indicated that a government can only take credit for a project they initiated and completed.
“Any government that executes any project should take credit for it, in this case, they never did anything,” he indicated.
He hinted that there is another project underway but which not materialise in the tenure of the current President, therefore if another President comes into power to actually build and finish it, President Akufo-Addo who initiated it cannot claim credit for it.
“We’re doing one currently but it will not materialise under the leadership of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo but the next government which hopefully will be Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia,”
“Now Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo cannot claim credit for what he’s doing now for an interchange to be built in another city of the country,” he stated.
Mr. Jalulah also disclosed that seven more interchanges will be completed by 2024.
“And as I told you we are having so many of this happening, on the Akosombo road we’re having two interchanges, Ofankor we’re having about four,”
“Even the most talked about Accra-Tema Motorway, this year hopefully it will come on stream and we’re having about four interchanges on that road,” the MP hinted.
