A young lady’s Mothering Sunday message to her boyfriend’s mother has gone viral.
The young woman, like many other Nigerians on Sunday, March 19, wanted to mark Mothering Sunday, by celebrating women in her life, one of them being her boyfriend’s mother.
In a WhatsApp conversation with her man’s mother, she typed out a lovely message thanking her for birthing and raising “a lovely son”.
In the message shared on the Facebook page ‘HappiVibes’, the young woman went further to note that she would have spent the day with her future mother-in-law and cooked for her if they lived in the same vicinity.
The message may have been sent with good intentions but the mother- in- law’s reply seemed to have shocked the internet with some people calling her “harsh”.
Although the ‘mother-in-law’ thanked the young lady for her message, she reminded the young woman that she was not married to her son yet and thus cannot claim him as hers.
“Also, if you spend time with me who will spend time with your mum? Spend time with your own mother, I am not your mother-in-law yet," she wrote.
She noted that despite her enthusiasm, the young woman might not end up marrying her son. “Make that special meal for your mum and have a nice day,” the ‘mother-in-law’ added.
Some social media users believe the mother’s statement was unneeded with some suspecting she may already have a daughter-in-law in mind.
Others also believe that the ‘mother-in-law’ may not like the young woman and the message is a clear indication she is not wanted.
However a section sides with this ‘mother-in-law’ saying she is only being truthful.
