This year's Mother's Day celebration took a different twist as Joy FM threw its spotlight on ten (10) mothers raising children with special needs.
On Saturday, May 13, 2023 some of Joy FM's presenters including Lexis Bill, Kofi Hayford, Sammy Forson, Kwame Dadzie, Iggy, Fiifi Folson and the Programmes Manager Edem Knight-Tay presented various items from their sponsors to these mothers.
Some of the items were bags of rice, cooking oil, fabric, drinks, sea food, among others.
Prior to the Super Mom Promo, people were asked to nominate mothers who had children with special needs. They sent stories of their struggles in fending for their children to Joy FM, and the entries were sifted to ten (10).
Sophia Asamoah has three children (boys) with autism, Regina Appiah has raised her 45-year-old daughter who is suffering from speech impairment and depression, Felicia Kusorgbor also caters for her 37-year-old son who has autism.
Others are Augusta Kwakye who has a 35-year-old son with down syndrome, Miriam who is fending for her six-year-old autistic son and Esther Lawoe, mother of 9-year-old Kewin suffering from cerebral palsy.
The rest are a six-year-old boy with cerebral palsy (and an amputated foot) being raised by his mother Faustina Owusu, Mary Amoah who has a 20-year-old daughter with autism, and Trish who is also catering for an autistic child.
Donations were also made to Dr. Wadza, a mother of two kids sickle cell anemia, one with cancer of the eye and three with other impairments.
Joy FM's Super Mom Promo was sponsored by Fortune Rice, Frytol Sunflower Oil, Zigzag Fashion Accessories, Woodin and Lesh Fortune Limited, Sonotech Ghana, Labadi Beach Hotel and Caveman Watches.
