The first female Programme Director of the Anglican Diocese of Accra, Ghana, and newly appointed member of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, Rev. Akua Ofori Boateng has cleared the air on her appointment.
She believes her nomination is due to her hard work over the years.
Rev. Akua Boateng also thinks that it is necessary for ministers of God to be involved in national decision-making in order to ensure honesty.
Speaking in an interview with Prime Morning’s Roselyn Felli, she stated that "it’s important that the things and the people of God are part of the decisions that are made at the national level."
"The Bible tells us that the government rests on the shoulders of the Lord. So certainly, those of us in the church who are members of the body of Christ should be visible in the things that happen in our country."
The Reverend Minister also believes her election does not come from the government, but from the citizenry. She said the government appoints people based on public interest.
Rev. Akua Boateng is one of the three new members who have been recently sworn into the Electoral Commission of Ghana by President Nana Akufo-Addo to replace retired commissioners.
She has promised to put the people’s interests first.
She expressed gratitude to the President for honouring her with such a position in the nation and has assured to effortlessly work and ensure transparency within the EC.
"I’m really honored to have the opportunity to serve," she said.
The new members include; Rev. Akua Ofori Boateng, Salima Ahmed Tijani, and Dr. Peter Appiahene. They have therefore joined Mrs. Jean Mensa as Chairperson, Mr. Samuel Tettey as Deputy Chairman for Operations, Dr. Bossman Eric Asare as Deputy Chairman for Corporate Services, and Ms. Adwoa Asuama Abrefa.
