The North Dayi District Assembly in the Volta Region has distributed a total of 700 pieces of mono desks, 100 dining tables and 200 benches to schools in the district.
This was to help reduce the furniture deficit in the district’s education sector.
The furniture was distributed among the basic and senior high schools, with those in dire need given higher quantities.
The District Chief Executive, Kudjoh Attah, said the furniture distribution was aimed at providing the requisite logistics to improve teaching and learning, and consequently enhance academic performance in the district.
He stated to the initiative was also to compliment the efforts of the central government to ensure a successful implementation of the free Senior High School.

“Education is the bedrock of development, and that is what the NPP government understands, and that is what Nana Akufo-Addo understands”, he said.
He added that his administration identifies that development cannot be achieved without education, hence, would continue to channel resources into the sector to achieve desired results.
“We added some teacher's tables and chairs because we want the teachers to have some ambiance of comfort so that they will be able to teach in an atmosphere that will help engender academic development” he said.
Mr. Attah entreated stakeholders in the sector to diligently deliver their responsibilities to improve the standard of education in the district.
The Headmaster of Vakpo Senior High School, Joshua Yao Vidzro, who received the furniture on behalf of the beneficiary schools commended the District Assembly on the initiative.
He, however, indicated that the schools would need more furniture to clear the deficit and to ensure every learner has a desk to sit in comfortably during lessons.
