The wife of a Kenyan pastor who is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday over the deaths of congregants has been arrested.
Pastor Paul Mackenzie's wife, Rhoda Maweu, was arrested in the coastal town of Mtwapa on Monday night after weeks of being on the run, local media said.
She was arrested alongside her aunt Everlyne Nduku Muema.
Police say Ms Maweu is a person of interest in the case where the suspected cult has led to the deaths of more than 100 people. She is expected to appear in court on Tuesday alongside her husband.
Some of the victims of the cult operating in Kilifi’s Shakahola forest were killed through suffocation and strangulation, post-mortem examinations on some of the 110 bodies exhumed have shown.
Mr Mackenzie has denied wrongdoing but has been denied bail.
Another pastor Ezekiel Odero who was arrested over similar deaths in his church also based in Kilifi county is also being arraigned in court on Tuesday.
