A caller on Joy FM named Kelvin says he personally does not condone the idea of dating or marrying a single parent because of his past experience as a child.
According to the Osu resident, dating or marrying someone who already has a child does more harm than good because the child may never be loved as though they were biological.
“I just got to know that when you marry somebody with a child, no matter what, you don’t have that kind of love that you have for the child, like the way you have for your biological children,” he said.
He shared this experience on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Friday while discussing the controversial topic of whether single parents are less attractive and whether it is advisable to marry them.
Kelvin said he lost his biological father when he was just 10 and after some years his mother dated this young man who was supposed to be his 'stepdad'.
He recalled a childhood experience when he was sacked from school over fees. After the incident, his mother assured him of getting the money when his stepdad returned from work that evening.
Kelvin added that the conversation that ensued between his guardians later was so unpleasant but they both ended the argument because he was around and they felt uncomfortable.
The part that he says left him devastated was when his mother the next morning, only to be met by hurtful words from the man.
The Osu resident said these words still ring in his head to date. This he said, has influenced his decision not to ever get involved with a single mother.
"To my hearing, the man was asking my mother, is he my child for you to bother me with school fees like that?"
“That statement has really hurt me till date that I never want to even experience it or hear anybody telling me something like that, to date somebody who has a child,” Kelvin revealed.
He continued that after that incident he did everything in his power to sabotage the relationship between his mother and the man and thankfully he succeeded.
