Niger earned their first-ever win in the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations following their win over Gabon on Wednesday in Group B.
Following a goalless draw with Egypt in their opening game, Niger triumphed with a victory over Gabon, who sit bottom in Group B.
Niger got a penalty in the 60th minute when Urie-Michel Mboula fouled Abdoul Salam Boulhassane.
Abdoul Moumouni Darankoum made Nigerien football history by being the country's first player to score a goal at the U-23 AFCON.
The outcome stayed unaltered as the score remained 1-0 in favour of Niger with Gabon suffering elimination with a game to spare.
In the other Group B game, Egypt again showed charisma with a 1-0 victory over a ten-man Mali on Wednesday.
The Pharaohs triumphed in a match between two tactically well-organized teams at Tangier's Grand Stade in Group B.
The Egyptians took control in the 10th minute thanks to Ibrahim Mohamed Adel, the team's captain who scored the only goal in the game.
With four points each, Egypt and Niger are the current top two in the group ahead of the last round of games.
