Profound exhilaration swept through the camp of Kumasi Anglican Secondary School after beating five-time National Champions, Prempeh College to win the 2023 Ashanti regional championship of the National Science and Maths Quiz for the first time.
In a keenly contested final but surprising comeback, the contestants from the yogurt camp who were trailing Prempeh by 3 points at the end of round 3 overturned the contest to win by 6 points in the final round.
The contestants of the school picked three of the four riddles to extend their lead in the contest.
They won the final contest with 32 points while Prempeh College and SIMMS SHS came second and third respectively with 26 points and 17 points.
Since the inception of the regional championship in 2021, the school has not made it to the final stage of the competition.
Their win is one they hold dear to their heart as both students and teachers of the school seek to rewrite history at this year’s tournament.
SIMMS Senior High School who also made their debut appearance at the final stage of the regional championship came third with 17 points.
Meanwhile, the boys from Prempeh College are taken aback by the eleventh-hour win as most of them were convinced of resounding after their nine-point lead at the end of the second round.
They are however promising to step up their game at the national stage and hopefully clinch their sixth national trophy.
Kumasi Anglican Secondary School before winning the championship had met Prempeh College in the semifinals of the championship but qualified to the final stage after securing the highest losing score.
