The Member of Parliament for Buem Constituency, Kofi Adams says he suspects that some colleague MPs are backing the individuals who are in court to overturn Parliament’s decision to make LGBTQ+ activities punishable by law.
Mr. Adams says using the element of connection, he has “reasonable reasons,” to be suspicious.
“As for those who are hiding behind other persons to go to court, I suspect so and I have reasonable reasons to suspect. Sometimes the positions and the leaning of some of those persons who are in court make me believe – I know that this person is connected to this, this person is connected to that. So if today, I find you taking a certain step, there’s reasonable justification for me to suspect and that is what I’m doing,” he said on JoyNews’ AM show on Tuesday.
Already, some individuals have resorted to legal actions, seeking an injunction on Parliament, and the Speaker, Alban Bagbin in order to overturn the House’s decision to pass the anti-LGBTQ+ bill.
Their primary argument is that the passing of the bill will cause an infringement on the rights of people in the LGBTQ+ community.

But arguing on the lines of culture, some MPs, the Speaker, and chiefs insist the practices of the LGBTQ+ community are not in line with the values of the various indigenous communities. The speaker has, in fact, assured the nation of the passage of the bill.
Stressing on this, Mr. Adams added that Parliament “has a duty and responsibility to perform its function and we’re performing that function.”
He argues that the judicial arm of government cannot dictate to the legislature on how it should perform its duties.
According to him, those requesting an injunction on Parliamentary proceedings in the wake of discussions on the bill have it all wrong.
What is right, he said, is for the said individuals to register their concerns after the process is concluded.
