The Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council has restricted the movement of tricycles also known as 'Pragyia' and 'Aboboyaa' in the central business district of Accra, Tema, and other selected electoral areas.
The Regional Coordinating Council resolved this after a meeting on Monday, August 14, 2023.
Speaking on the matter, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey said the Regional Coordinating Council has a mandate of monitoring, evaluating and overseeing the implementation of government policies.
He stated that as part of the assessment of the region, it was agreed by consensus that they reinforce the earlier directive that was issued about a year ago on restricting Aboboyaa on motorways as a result of their heavy presence.
The Minister told JoyNews that the by-laws restricting ‘Aboboyaa’ have been passed and gazetted already but a quick by-law to be passed was added to restrict the movement of 'Pragya'.
“The governing body of the Regional Coordinating Council unanimously, by consensus, have agreed that the use of Pragyia in some selected assemblies in the Central Business District be restricted, and so to back it by law so that we are able to get the law to deal with people through a court of competent jurisdiction”, Mr Quartey said.
A statement from the assembly says there has been a restriction of the movement of Pragya in the following areas; Korle Klottey in the Tema Metropolitan, La Dadekotopon, La Nkwantanang Madina, Ayawaso East, West, Central and North, Ledzorkuku and Okaikwei North.
There has also been a resolution to reinforce the restriction of Pragya on the motorway as well as principal streets in the region.
