The chairman of Parliament's committee investigating the authenticity and veracity of the leaked tape plotting to oust the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Samuel Atta Akyea, has commended its first witness, Bugri Naabu for his honest admission under oath.
The former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Daniel Bugri Naabu, on Monday, August 28, confirmed the validity of the leaked tape.
The paramount chief also confirmed that it is his voice that is in the tape.
“My voice is there…well one Commander Asare, a police commander, but I don’t know which district or which section he commands, but he introduced himself to me when he came to my office that he was a police commander based at the police headquarters…I asked him where does he know me and he told me that during the time of political campaigns in 2014, 2015, 2016, I used to come to Wa with the President and the Vice President, and Alhaji Short I said that if he says that, then it is true.
“Apart from Commander Asare, there was one man who later joined called COP Mensah, but he is on leave now prior to his retirement and he was also part of it, and later one Gyebi who is also a police superintendent at the Police Headquarters, also joined through a phone call,” he said.
He also said the motive for recording the contentious leaked tape was for him to play it to President Akufo-Addo for him to make a decision.
These admissions are what compelled the Chairman of the committee to commend him.

Speaking in an interview with Accra-based Citi FM on Monday said the work of the committee has been made easier.
"This is what they call a positive judicial confession. What more do you need? A man affirms on oath that this is my voice on tape, I did the recording, and the individual voices who were with me are the following. I think that this is the basic material that we are going to work with.”
The former also disclosed the next persons who will be appearing before the committee.
“Our next sitting is on Thursday. COP George Alex Mensah will appear, and Superintendent Asare, and Superintendent Emmanuel Gyebi will also appear. These are the three individuals who will appear on Thursday,” he added.
