UK-based Ghanaian boxer Seth Gyimah, popularly known as Freezy Macbones, says his decision to represent Ghana was due to the Ghana Boxing Federation reaching out to him.
Macbones has been in Ghana for the last one week as he begins preparations for the African qualifiers for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
The boxer is included in the Black Bombers team that is expected to leave for the African qualifiers in Dakar, Senegal.
According to him, he took up the challenge to represent Ghana to ensure he gives what he thinks he can to help the team secure qualification to Paris 2024.
"The GBF reached out to me through my management and expressed their intention for me to come back home and help the team," he told Asempa FM's Fire Lady.
"It was hard for me to make a decision...sometimes let's put money aside and look at what we can do to help the country.
"How I do my things, I am open to everybody. I want everyone to look up to Freezy and say 'because of this guy, I'm not going to give up.
"It was a tough decision but I told my management I want to go back and help my country and also Africa."
Ghana will be competing to secure qualification in five of seven weight categories in the African qualifiers scheduled for 9-15 September.
For boxers who fail to earn quota spots in Dakar, there will be a further opportunity at the two world qualification tournaments in Busto Arzizio, Italy, from 29 February to 12 March and Bangkok, Thailand from 23 May to 3 June.
