Travellers from Ghana to London, will from Sunday October 29, 2023 have more options to fly to the city in the United Kingdom.
This is because, British Airways will launch three new flights in a week from Gatwick- Accra- Gatwick on the set date.
The move will increase the number of flights between Accra and London, with the addition of three return services a week.
British Airways told Joy Business that from Sunday, October 29, 2023 that  Ghanaian travellers will have more choice of flight times and airports, with the additional flights operating into London Gatwick.
The British carrier noted that the service will increase the offerings to their customers flying on the London-Accra -London route.
The airline already flies daily between Accra and London (Heathrow Terminal 5).
The new flights will depart Accra at 21.20GMT on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, arriving at London Gatwick at 04.00 GMT.
The Accra bound service will depart at midday, landing in London at 18:35 GMT.
British Airways is expected to use Boeing 777-200 for this service on the route.
British Airways on reasons for increased flights schedule
Moran Birger, British Airways’ Head of Sales for Africa, Middle East and South Asia said: “Restoring our Africa network after the pandemic gave us an opportunity to carefully consider the routes and regions where there was potential for growth. Accra was one of those routes and Africa is one of those regions.”
He added that Gatwick provides Ghanaian expats and UK holiday makers with an alternative gateway from London and premium customers as well as Gold and Silver Executive Club members can ease their way into holidays or family visits in the recently refurbished lounges.
The new services also add cargo capacity on the route, increasing opportunities for Ghanaian exporters to quickly get perishables and other goods to market through IAG Cargo, the cargo division of International Airlines Group, British Airways’ parent company.
Pricing
To mark the start of the new services, British Airways, which has served Ghana for over 85 years, is offering a launch special, with fares from Gatwick to Accra starting from $2,947 in Club World and $689 in World Traveller.
Some industry analysts have argued that the launch of the service could impact on ticket pricing on the Accra – London route in the coming months.
Introduction of new offerings to passengers
Customers on these flights will also soon start to see the new British Airways’ uniform as cabin crew, pilots and check-in agents switch over from their current Julien MacDonald uniforms.
According to British Airways, the uniforms are designed by British Ghanaian Savile Row fashion designer and tailor, Ozwald Boateng OBE.
All flights from London Heathrow to Accra are served by the airline’s A350 fleet, British Airways’ newest and more-fuel efficient aircraft type, featuring the latest generation business class seat, Club Suite.
