The Senior Manager for Branch Network Services for MTN in the Northern Sector of Ghana, Mrs Adwoa Afrakoma Baah Obeng is encouraging mentors to share their personal experiences with mentees.
She believes it facilitates the transformative process of mentees.
“Unfortunately, people are scared of being vulnerable by sharing their personal experience when it comes to mentorship.
“But the beauty of mentorship is that people can identify what you’ve personally been through and know that if you’ve walked that path and have come out then they can equally do so."
She was speaking during Mastercard Foundation Scholars Mentors workshop 2023 in Kumasi.

The workshop was under the theme: 'Becoming an effective mentor and learning personal grooming'.
Mrs. Obeng also stressed the importance of commitment for effective mentorship.
“Make sure you make time and commit to these sessions with your mentees,” she said.
The workshop was in collaboration with Women in Science, Technology and Mathematics Ghana (WiSTEMGh) and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
Secretary of WiSTEMGh, Dr. Mrs. Mercy Badu is optimistic the 2-day workshop will help them discharge their roles effectively.
The participants were happy about the positive impact of the training.
“I’ve learnt from others experiences that through mentorship impacts are made. I see it as a big privilege to be part of this workshop,” Dr. Princess Akyeampong said.
Another participant, Mrs Regina Nuako said “As a mentor you need to stay focused and in the course of the mentoring process, you’ll be able to put yourself in the person’s shoes so you can relate very well”.
