Chieftaincy Minister Stephen Asamoah Boateng has issued an urgent plea to the National House of Chiefs to intervene in the escalating tensions between Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and Dormaahene Oseadeyo Agyemang Badu II.
The two traditional leaders have recently been involved in a public dispute, with the Dormaahene suspending the Berekum Traditional Council from its activities.
The suspension is linked to an injunction that prevented him from attending the final funeral rites of the late chief of Berekum, Daasebre Dr Amankona Diawuo II - which allowed Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to participate in the event.
Responding to the situation, Asamoah Boateng has called on the National House of Chiefs to address the current impasse urgently.
He highlighted the importance of resolving the issue promptly, as it adds to the numerous chieftaincy cases already pending before his ministry.
Mr Asamoah Boateng expressed concern that the ongoing dispute between the two respected traditional leaders could potentially impact the peace in the country.
“There are serious issues that if we don’t tackle head-on, could lead to serious troubles…We have managed to resolve 38 chieftaincy cases...however, I must be quick to admit that the pending number of cases numbering about 477, leaves much to be desired," he pleaded.
Stephen Asamoah Boateng openly acknowledged that the public dispute between Nananom, particularly Dormaahene and Asantehene, is detrimental to collective efforts.
