The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has restated its objection to the proposed change in the election date by the Electoral Commission, which is contemplating a shift from December 7 to November 7.
The party stressed its opposition during the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting held on Monday, January 29, as outlined in a press statement issued and signed by the General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey.
The NDC urged the public to dismiss any conflicting reports.
Additionally, the party revealed its support for altering the date for the 2028 general elections rather.
"The National Democratic Congress states without equivocation that the Electoral Commission's quest to hold the general elections in November 2024 will not be supported by the NDC."
"The announcement by Dr. Bossman Asare, the Deputy Chairman of Corporate Services of the EC does not reflect the irrefutable arguments that led to the consensus that any major electoral reforms should become effective from November 2028."
The party disputed the assertion by Dr. Bossman Asare that nearly 60% of political parties in Ghana endorsed the proposal.
The NDC explicitly stated that Dr. Asare is intentionally trying to deceive the Ghanaian public.
"It is therefore strange but not unexpected that Dr. Bossman will mislead the general public that, 'almost about 60%' of political parties supported the proposal for elections to be held in November 2024 at the IPAC meeting held on Monday, January 29, 2024," the statement added.
