Deputy Director for Public Health in the Ahafo Region, Dr. Bernard Ziem has lauded the Asutifi North District Health Directorate for its accomplishment of zero maternal deaths in 2023.
According to him, the managers of the Directorate gave intensive in-service training to midwives. They ensured that they put what they had learned into practice to prevent maternal deaths which were problematic.
In an interview with Adom News, Dr. Bernard Ziem, the Ahafo Regional Deputy Director for Public Health, highlighted that despite previous challenges in recording maternal deaths, the District's managers successfully prevented any such cases in 2023 through additional measures.
Dr. Ziem, currently serving as the Acting Asutifi North District Health Director as well, mentioned that in 2023, the District achieved the commendable feat of not recording any deaths related to malaria among children under the age of five.
“Throughout the year, no maternal mortality was observed in this district, which is a significant achievement. I commend the midwives we sent to chief zones and all health workers for their contributions that brought us to this point.
“In 2023, Asutifi North District had no deaths related to malaria among children under five. This is a significant contribution to our national strategy for malaria elimination in Ghana” he emphasized.
Meanwhile, the Asutifi North District Coordinating Director Samuel Badu Baiden, has conveyed the District Assembly's contentment with the positive and encouraging indicators in the Directorate's 2023 performance.
He used the opportunity to appeal to all stakeholders in the District to assist health workers to embark on the duties to improve health status of residents.
“We gave them our purpose, and they achieved some but not all due to the challenges of limited resources. Despite the constraints, we encourage ourselves to work with what we have.
“We inform the leaders to make improvements and bring change to our community, with the goal of solving our problems” he added.
