The Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) has announced a revenue mobilisation drive aimed at collecting monies owed by customers.
According to NEDCo, the revenue mobilisation drive is part of a broader strategy to improve its financial performance and address outstanding payment issues with customers.
Speaking on Joynews’ Midday News, the Public Relations Officer of NEDCO, Alhassan Ababa says the drive will take place in all of NEDCo's operational areas.
These areas include the Ahafo, Bono, Bono East, Savannah, Northern, North East, Upper East, and Upper West regions.
According to him, all customers who are in arrears have been notified of their outstanding debts.
He stated that the customers attempted to enter into payment arrangements with them in the past
“We are only following on that arrangement to ensure that whatever is due us we are taking. A little over GH₵1 billion,” Mr Ababa said.
He asked all defaulters to comply as they have been given prior information.
Background NEDCo is not the only utility company in Ghana that has recently announced a revenue mobilisation drive. The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has also launched a similar initiative.
The Accra Academy Senior High School (SHS) was recently plunged into darkness after the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) cut off electricity supply due to unpaid arrears.

The entire campus was in total darkness as of 08:40 pm on Monday, February 19, forcing students to rely on torchlights to study, according to a media practitioner who had visited the school.
Also, the ECG visited Parliament house in an attempt to disconnect the establishment from the national power grid due to outstanding debts amounting to GH₵23 million.
