The President of Ghana athletics, Bawa Fuseini, has said the timing of the 2023 African Games affected the readiness of the athletes for the competition.
Fuseini believes athletes were not at their peak yet when the games were held in Ghana earlier this month as the outdoor season has just begun.
The six medals Ghana’s athletics team amassed from the 13th African Games were just eight percent of the host nation’s total haul of 69.
“…the timing was problematic because of the indoor championships, the athletes had just completed indoor games," Bawa Fuseini told Citi TV.
“It didn’t affect only Ghana, it affected all the West Africans and the Kenyans who have their athletes in the American universities.
“But we told all our athletes the days have been fixed, forget about being indoor and outdoor. Let’s just prepare you for the championships.”
