Senior Legal Practitioner and Development Consultant at ALC Law Consult, Sheila Minkah-Premo, has called for thorough investigations and subsequent prosecution in the case of a 63-year-old Ga priest's alleged marriage to a 12-year-old girl.
Speaking on Joy FM's Newsfile, Madam Minkah-Premo emphasised the importance of addressing child marriages, citing the national strategy.
She stressed the need for setting a precedent to deter such occurrences in the future.

“The appropriate investigations should be undertaken. After the investigation, once what we have seen and heard is established, the appropriate prosecution should take place,” she said on Saturday.
The legal practitioner further highlighted the role of the law in addressing such matters, urging swift action.
“There is a national strategy in place seeking to address child marriages and for me, this is a classic case that we should see through to set a precedent for others in this country so that nobody would ever think of repeating this. So I think the law should work,” she added.
This comes after the priest, Nuumo Borketey Laweh XXXIII, also known as Gborbu Wulomo, was seen performing the traditional marriage rights for Naa Okromo last weekend.

Following widespread criticism, the traditional council denied the marriage claims and insisted that the ceremony was a betrothal.
Meanwhile, the office of the Gborbu Wulomo has defended the ceremony between the 63-year-old priest, Nuumo Borketey Laweh XXXIII, and a 12-year-old girl.

According to the office, Naa Okromo is considered one of the special children chosen by the Gborbu deity to dedicate their lives to serving the god.
