Former President John Mahama has unveiled plans for a security overhaul under his proposed National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, emphasising joint military-police anti-robbery squads across the nation.
The announcement came during his 'Building the Ghana We Want Tour' in Gambaga, North East Region.
As part of his campaign promises, Mr Mahama pledged to establish these joint security units to ensure the safety of economic activities under the NDC's proposed 24-hour economy initiative.
He stressed the crucial role of security in facilitating uninterrupted economic activities.
Additionally, Mr Mahama vowed to address security concerns in the newly created regions under the Akufo-Addo administration by constructing military barracks in each of the six regions.
These regions include Savanna, Bono East, Ahafo, Western North, Oti, and the North East, where his announcement was made.
The former president's commitment to bolstering security aligns with his vision of fostering economic growth and development by the NDC.
He emphasised the significance of security infrastructure in creating an enabling environment for sustainable economic progress.
"All six new regions are going to have military barracks so that the Ghana Army will be present in all the regions", Mr. Mahama promised.
He added, "In addition, we are going to form joint military and police anti-armed robbery squads and one of those squads will be here in the North East to fight armed robbery.
"Because we want you to have peace and security to be able to go about your duties and we know that our 24-hour economy policy cannot work unless there is security and safety for everybody," he said.
