President Nana Akufo-Addo is set to commission 120 housing units in Appiatse, the farming community located between Bogoso and Bawdie in the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality of the Western Region.
This initiative comes two years after the community was struck by a devastating explosion that levelled the community.
In January 2022, a vehicle transporting about 10 tonnes of mining explosives to the Chirano Mines collided with a motorcycle, leading to the detonation of the explosives and causing widespread destruction in the entire Appiatse community.
Following this devastating incident, the government initiated the reconstruction process to provide housing for survivors.
Now, after concerted efforts, a total of 124 housing units and additional facilities have been completed for the affected residents.
These newly constructed houses range from one-bedroom to seven-bedroom units and are equipped with enhanced amenities.
Additionally, auxiliary facilities such as a market, a six-unit classroom block, a kindergarten block, internal roads, water and electricity connections, a drainage system, and a water storage system have been included to improve the quality of life in the community.
The completion of these housing units represents a significant milestone in the efforts to rebuild Appiatse and restore hope to the affected residents.
