Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has expressed his gratitude to the National Executive Council (NEC) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for approving Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh as his running mate for the 2024 general elections.
In a post via his social media pages on Thursday, July 4, following the announcement, Dr. Bawumia commended the NEC for recognising Dr Opoku Prempeh’s qualifications and capabilities, describing him as "astute and brilliant."
Dr Bawumia highlighted Dr Opoku Prempeh’s extensive experience and proven track record in various ministerial roles, particularly in education and energy.
He emphasised that Dr Opoku Prempeh, also known as Napo, has been instrumental in the successful implementation of the Free SHS programme and has demonstrated exceptional leadership in transforming Ghana's energy sector.
According to Dr Bawumia, these accomplishments make Napo a valuable addition to the NPP's ticket.
The Vice President further praised Dr Opoku Prempeh’s dedication to public service and his unwavering commitment to the development of Ghana.
Dr Bawumia noted that Napo’s selection as running mate would strengthen the party’s chances of securing victory in the upcoming elections, as his expertise and vision align perfectly with the NPP's goals for the country.
"Today, I had the honour and privilege to present my choice of running mate Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh to the National Council of the New Patriotic Party for their consideration in line with NPP constitution."
