Ghanaian gospel artiste Obaapa Christy has launched an initiative to project three budding musicians.
As part of the second anniversary of her eatery Obaapa Essen, the ‘Hyebre Sesafo’ singer is running a contest called ‘Sing Like Obaapa’ which will give up and coming singers the opportunity to perform at the anniversary celebration of the restaurant.
A few weeks ago, Obaapa invited interested participants to send in their works. On the day of the event which is August 5, 2024, the number will be whittled down to six after each of the participants performs Obaapa Christy’s songs for two minutes.
Five people will be chosen for the second round. Here, they would be allowed to sing other songs to prove their mettle.
The judges comprising Noble Neketia, Fred Kyei Mensah and Reverend Josephine Agyei, will further select the top three winners.
According to Obaapa Christy’s manager, Nana Kwame Darkwah, these three winners will have a special recording offer from the gospel musician.

“Obaapa Christy’s management will write songs for the three winners, and will help them to record with a music producer of their choice,” he told myjoyonline.com.
The programme will take place at Obaapa Essen, next to Fisherman’s house at Odorkor - Kaneshie August 5, 2024.
Obaapa who has over been in the music industry for over two decades is known for songs like 'W'agye Me', 'Yare Yeya', 'Onto Nko', 'Ma Enye Yie', and 'The Glory'.
