The Minister for Employment, Labour Relations, and Pensions, Ignatius Baffour Awuah, has announced the development of the Ghana Labour Market Information System (GLMIS) database by the Ministry.
This initiative aims to enhance service delivery by the Labour Department to job seekers across the country.
Baffour Awuah explained that the GLMIS, accessible online is designed to serve as a key platform for interaction between job seekers and employers.
The database is being developed under the third component of the Ghana Jobs and Skills Project, funded by the World Bank, to support skills development and job creation.

"The Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations is implementing component 3 of the project, which focuses on improving the capacity of the Labour Department for better coordination of the labour market," the Minister stated.
He further noted that the GLMIS will provide crucial data on skills in demand, identify training and development gaps, and enable employers to make informed decisions regarding the labour market.
Through the platform, employers can declare job vacancies and job seekers can upload their Curriculum Vitae (CVs) for job matching.
Mr Baffour Awuah expressed optimism that the GLMIS will help reduce issues such as job mismatch, unemployment, and underemployment—persistent challenges in the labour market that the government is keen to address.
"The platform will significantly enhance the coordination of the labour market," he added.

He also highlighted that as the system generates timely reports on the true state of the labour market, it will provide the government with better insights to make effective policy interventions for maximum impact.
The Minister stated that the project will help tackle the logistical and infrastructural challenges that have hindered the Labour Department from delivering efficient services, ultimately improving overall service effectiveness.
