The Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr Bossman Asare, says the commission will for the first time publish election results on its website.
According to him, this is part of efforts to ensure transparency of the electoral process.
His comments come on the back of the African Union High Representative for Silencing the Guns, Dr Mohamed Ibn Chambas, adding his voice to several others calling for the EC to publish polling station results on the website of the Electoral Commission (EC).
Dr. Chambas explained that it would greatly advance and enhance the credibility and transparency of the electoral process.
In response on JoyNews’ The Probe on September 15, Dr Asare said “This is something the commission has discussed and it is something we are going to do in 2024.
“We will make sure that the polling station results are published on our websites way before people who want to go to court. They want to test the law and be sure to establish what actually happened at the polling station. It is something the commission has discussed and we are going to be doing it.”
Dr Asare reiterated that the election management body is working to tick all the boxes so as to satisfy all political parties and movements to prevent any unwarranted accusations.
However, since this would be the first time the EC would be publishing these results, Dr Asare said the results would only go live on the commission's website after all other polling station results have been received.
“Since its the first time the commission is doing it, we will ensure that once we have the full results of all polling stations, then we go ahead and do[publish] it,” he added.
