The Deputy Chairman of the Electoral Commission (EC) in Charge of Corporate Services, Dr Bossman Asare, has affirmed that the Ghana Police Service and the National Election Security Taskforce have pledged to ensure security before, during, and after the upcoming Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun.
Speaking at a press briefing ahead of Friday’s polls, Dr Asare said the Commission is relying on the security agencies to guarantee the protection of lives and property throughout the election period.
“We count on them to guarantee that lives and properties are protected and that voters and our staff will work in a safe and conducive environment tomorrow,” he emphasised.
The rerun follows the inconclusive December 2024 election in the constituency, attended by widespread disagreements between the two dominant parties- the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress.
With political tensions running high, the EC has emphasised the importance of maintaining peace and security to facilitate a smooth and credible electoral process.
The Commission has urged all stakeholders to cooperate with security officials and exercise restraint as the final phase of the election unfolds.
Voting will take place in 19 polling stations to complete the election process in the constituency.
The constituency has remained without a declared Member of Parliament following disturbances that disrupted the collation process.
The following is the list of the 19 polling stations where voting will take place.
