The commissioning of earth-moving equipment under the recently launched District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) in the Gomoa West District turned violent.
Details of the scuffle remain unclear, but reports indicate that it involved members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The District Chief Executive, who also doubles as the NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Gomoa West, Bismark Nkum, explained the sequence of events to Adom News.
He stated that the President of the Gomoa Akyempim Traditional Council and the President of the Gomoa Assin Traditional Council were ready to commission the machines when the sitting Member of Parliament Richard Gyan-Mensah arrived with some angry NDC party members.
According to Mr Nkum, the MP disrupted the programme, allegedly brandishing a gun, chains, and a cutlass.
“This guy is one of the operators, people who have been trained and the MP himself hit him with a gun. So, a whole MP, we sent you go to Parliament, the leader of Gomoa West, and you come and pull a pistol in the full glare of the police.
“We want the police to find out whether that pistol is licensed or not? If it is licensed, let's ask whether he has the authority to do what he did with that pistol,” he said.

But Gomoa West MP Richard Gyan-Mensah has denied the allegations.
He rejected claims that he stormed the premises with a gun adding that the police would have taken action against him if he has perpetrated violence.
