The Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Edward Omane Boamah, says the Electoral Commission (EC) is afraid of releasing the final voter register to the party.
He stated that this is because the Commission is scared of what more discrepancies the party will expose from the register.
According to him, the EC’s failure to make the register available is troubling and raises questions about the transparency of the electoral process ahead of the upcoming elections.
Mr Boamah claims the delay reflects a lack of commitment to ensuring free and fair elections.
Speaking during a meeting with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and other stakeholders on Monday, September 23, Dr Boamah expressed the NDC’s frustration, stating that the party had made multiple requests for the final voter’s register, but the EC had not responded satisfactorily.
He hinted that the EC’s reluctance could be an indication of deeper issues within the electoral body, fueling suspicions of possible irregularities or attempts to manipulate the electoral process.
The former Communications Minister stressed that a credible voter’s register is crucial for the integrity of the elections.
He further noted that political parties, including the NDC, have a legal right to access the voter’s register well ahead of the elections to allow for necessary preparations and to ensure transparency.
"The EC has not released the final voter's register to the political party, but it claims it has resolved all our (NDC) concerns without knowing them.
"But they can’t start printing the register without giving us a copy. I feel they are afraid to release the register to us because they don't know what more discrepancies we will expose," he stated.
