A group calling itself the ‘Girls Girls’ for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will officially outdoor the association today, September 29, 2024.
The group comprising over 300 members includes female party officials, corporate women, female student groups, female skilled worker groups, female hawker groups, and female head porters (Kayayes), among others.
Organisers hold the view that these women with a common understanding will contribute extensively to the fortunes of the NPP and to ‘Breaking the 8’ in the forthcoming 2024 polls and most importantly, it will give Ghanaians progressive leadership.
Justifying the need for the group and its activities, female NPP youth activist and Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS), Gifty Oware-Mensah disclosed “Women play an important role in nation-building. As part of a better nation-building agenda, women must go beyond traditional leadership roles. The purpose of this event is to underpin the importance of women in politics to the development of our nation. Women have a voice! And our voices must be heard at home, at work, through our political roles and by our votes”.
“The effect of our inclusion at home, at work and in the political space cannot be over-emphasised. This is because women are always mindful of the ripple effect of our actions and inactions. As such, we are known for making well-thought-through choices”, she explained.
She added “We the women in the NPP believe that our political party has a better blueprint that will make life better for women, our children and Ghana as a whole. We are, therefore, inviting women from all works of life to join us on Sunday, 29th September 2024 at the Patty’s Event Centre, East Legon where we dialogue under a friendly and less formal ambiance to share our achievements and aspirations as a political party”.
