The Achimota Golf Club officially launched the 2024 Accra Open, dubbed the "Festival of Golf Week," on October 10, 2024, at its base in Achimota, Accra.
The annual event, which has been held for decades, will take place from November 18 and is expected to run for one week.
It will feature various tournaments and activities involving over 120 players at both junior and senior levels.
This year’s Accra Open holds special significance as the club celebrates its 90th anniversary.
“Achimota is the home of Accra Open and we are very proud of that,” Captain of Achimota Golf Club, Sjoerd Grueter said.
“This year is a special year because it is also our 90th anniversary so we decided the Accra Open will be celebrated at the same time as the 90th so it will be a grand event.”
Professional golfers from abroad, including those from East and Southern Africa, have been invited to compete for the top prize.
“Golfers will have prizes which they can display and the badge of honour having won the Accra Open,” Vice-Captain of Achimota Golf Club Emmanuel Quarcoo revealed.
“For the professionals, there is money because they play for money, so we have quite a heavy package. This will be the tournament that will pay out the most in prize money in Ghana this year.
The Achimota Golf Club, which was established in 1934 by expert teachers, is the oldest golf club in Ghana.
