The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Vice Presidential Candidate Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh has taken another swipe at former President John Mahama, accusing him of plunging the country into total darkness, popularly known as ‘Dumsor’, when he was in office.
According to him, John Mahama and his National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, through gross mismanagement and bad policies, failed woefully to produce a constant power supply to improve businesses.
He said as a result of the NDC’s mismanagement, Ghanaians, especially businessmen and women, suffered severely. “Ghanaians only remember John Mahama for his infamous ‘Dumsor’ he noted.
Also known as Napo, Dr Opoku Prempeh said “The only thing that John Mahama bequeathed to Ghanaians as president, is frequent power cuts so we only remember him for his ‘Dumsor’”.
The NPP Vice Presidential Candidate was speaking at Akyem Topremeng in the Akwatia Constituency in the Eastern Region on Monday as part of his nationwide campaign tour to win votes for the NPP ahead of the polls.
Napo recounted that, under John Mahama’s administration, the cost of businesses increased, so businesses that could not withstand the sudden harsh economic environment crumbled, thereby leading to the loss of jobs in the country.
According to him, it took an intelligent, bold, and visionary leader like President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo before the ‘Dumsor’ problem was finally dealt with to help ease the burden on Ghanaians.
He therefore sternly cautioned Ghanaians about the danger of voting the incompetent NDC back into office, indicating that John Mahama has not learned his lessons, so he would definitely fail again if he becomes the president.
According to him, he has closely watched John Mahama’s recent campaign addresses, and he [Mahama] is not saying anything new, noting that “it’s the same old John Mahama that we all know. The originator of the ‘Dumsor’ debacle.
“From his narrations, you can see that he has not changed, so if we make a mistake and give him political power again, he will mismanage the country and also bring back ‘Dumsor’ to destroy businesses and deepen hardships once again”.
Napo said Dr Bawumia is a visionary, patriotic, hard-working, and ready to work assiduously as president to take the country to the Promised Land. He appealed to the electorates to vote for Dr Bawumia and all NPP parliamentary candidates.
