During a joint session of the Moroccan Parliament, French President Emmanuel Macron reiterated France’s firm support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara.
“I reaffirm here, before you, that for France, the present and future of this territory lie within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty,” Macron declared.
“Autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty is the basis for resolving this issue,” he added, reaffirming the stance he previously communicated to His Majesty King Mohammed VI on the occasion of the 25th Throne Day.
President Macron further committed to supporting Morocco in international forums, highlighting France’s view that “the 2007 autonomy plan remains the only foundation for a fair, lasting, and negotiated political solution in line with UN Security Council resolutions.”
The French President also emphasized France’s commitment to backing development in the Sahara, pledging that “our operators and companies will support the growth of these regions through investment and sustainable, collaborative initiatives that benefit local populations.”
Macron contextualised this position as one aimed at fostering regional cooperation, clarifying that “this stance is not directed against any party but rather opens a new page of collaboration—among us, Morocco’s neighboring countries, and the European Union.”
In this historic address, France reaffirms its deep-rooted ties with Morocco, acknowledging the Kingdom’s enduring rights in the Sahara region.
President Macron underscored the longstanding alliance between the two nations, saying, “In difficult times, Morocco and France have remained steadfast allies, and France has always stood by Morocco on its essential issues.”
