Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), George Afriyie, has officially responded to charges of alleged misconduct leveled against him by the GFA.
In his response, Afriyie pleaded not guilty, arguing that his comments were misunderstood and taken out of context.
"My comments were taken out of context, misinterpreted, and do not constitute improper conduct," he said.
Mr. Afriyie's response was necessitated by charges leveled against him by the GFA, on November 7.
In a circular released on the said date, the GFA charged Mr. Afriyie for statements he made during an interview on Kessben TV, where he cited alleged match-fixing incidents involving AshGold and Inter Allies to suggest that the Ghana Premier League was manipulated.
The GFA contended that these statements harmed the league’s image and invoked section 11(2)(d) of the 2019 GFA Disciplinary Code, which prohibits conduct that brings the association into disrepute.
Following his response, the disciplinary committee will now interrogate the facts of his response against the regulations cited, before making a determination of his quilt or otherwise.
