The president of the South African Football Association (SAFA), Danny Jordaan, has been released on bail of R20,000 ($1,100/£870) after being arraigned in court over allegations of fraud and embezzlement amounting to 1.3 million Rand ($71,000).
Jordaan, who is seeking a fourth term as SAFA president, appeared in court on Wednesday, where his bail conditions were outlined.
He must provide a 72-hour notice before traveling abroad and cannot miss court proceedings due to international commitments.
The case stems from accusations made by former SAFA vice-president William Mooka and other former executives, prompting an investigation by the Hawks, South Africa's Directorate for Priority Crime Investigations.
Between 2014 and 2018, Jordaan is alleged to have used federation resources for personal benefit, including hiring a private security company for his protection and engaging a public relations firm without board approval.
The Hawks -  the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigations under the Minister of Police, raided SAFA’s offices in an evidence-gathering operation lasting five hours. They confiscated a laptop, USB drives, external hard drives, and various documents as part of their probe.
