Ukraine has expressed strong support for Africa’s quest for reforms at the United Nations, calling for the continent to be granted two permanent seats on the UN Security Council.
Maksym Subkh, Ukraine’s Deputy Foreign Minister and Special Representative for the Middle East and Africa, emphasized that Africa deserves greater representation in global decision-making platforms, including a place in the G20.
“Africa has come of age and must be accorded the representation it rightfully deserves,” Mr. Subkh said during an interview with Joy News’ in Kyiv.
The deputy minister affirmed Ukraine’s commitment to strengthening ties with Africa and highlighted the nation’s intention to return to peacekeeping efforts on the continent once the war with Russia concludes.
He also detailed the devastating impact of Russia’s aggression on Ukraine, revealing that 50% of the country’s power grid has been destroyed as part of the ongoing conflict.
Despite these challenges, Mr. Subkh reiterated Ukraine’s dedication to global partnerships and its belief in Africa’s pivotal role in shaping the future of international governance.
