The Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) has reported significant progress under the government’s District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP).

The initiative has led to improvements on approximately 80 kilometres of roads across five district assemblies in the region.

Launched in July, the DRIP programme is designed to equip Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) with the necessary resources and tools to rehabilitate and maintain local road networks.

The project aims to improve accessibility and enhance the infrastructure within communities, benefiting residents and businesses alike.

During a recent site visit, Ebenezer Nii Narh Nartey, the Regional Coordinator for the DRIP project, provided an update on the programme’s impact.

He noted that the initiative had transformed previously unmotorable, cut-off, and inaccessible roads in areas such as Awoshie, Sowutuom, Amasaman, Old Barrier, and Weija.

He highlighted the success in various districts, including Ga South, Ga West, and Ga North. "When we went to Weija-Gbawe, that is Ga South, they gave us 26 kilometres. Currently, we are at Ga West, where almost 18 kilometres have been completed. In Ga North, we are looking at 12 kilometres," he said.

Nartey expressed satisfaction with the progress, citing the addition of more roads in other areas, which has brought the total to nearly 80 kilometres of road improved in just three to four months. He called the achievement "very impressive" considering the short period.

The Regional Coordinator concluded that the success of DRIP reflects the government's commitment to improving road infrastructure and the standard of living for residents in Greater Accra.
