The National Investigation Bureau (NIB) in the Bono East has intercepted a Kia-Rhino Truck loaded with quantities of food items allegedly meant for distribution, under the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP).
The truck with registration number AS 9584-14 was alleged to be smuggling 56 bags of 50 kilogramme ‘Lucy branded Rice’ to be supplied to Jema Senior High School in the Kintampo South District and Kintampo Senior High School in the Kintampo North Municipality of the Region.
The Ghana News Agency (GNA) learned the driver of the truck had since been arrested as investigations continue.
A reliable source at the NIB, who confirmed the story to the GNA in Techiman, said the incident happened on Thursday, November 21, 2024.
The source explained that the driver picked up the items from the stores of the Techiman Senior High School (TESS), a distribution point.
He said the truck was impounded at Tuobodom, the Techiman North District capital.
He said instead of sending the items to the beneficiary schools, the driver diverted and offloaded them onto two tricycles (Aboboyaa) at Tuobodom.
During a visit to the Bono East Regional Command of the NIB in Techiman, the GNA noticed that the Kia truck and the two tricycles, loaded with the quantities of rice were parked at the premises.
